Still Life Paintings
The thematic still lives are constructed in the studio, incorporating organic forms and manmade objects, with the surfaces and backdrops being made and coloured specifically to enhance the theatricality of the set-ups. Using ideas of memory and nostalgia for particular customs and rituals such as Halloween, or imaginary journeys in response to the subjects.
Vertical Cupcake by Gethin Evans
Gethin Evans moved from Maesteg, South Wales to study on the Foundation Course at the Byam Shaw School of Art in 1974, and has lived and worked in London since that time. Early influences include Italian painters of the 14th and 15th Century, particularly the frescos of Masaccio and Piero Della Francesca that he encountered on a travelling award to Italy when studying at Camberwell School of Art. He has been the recipient of the David Murrey Landscape award and the Melville Nettleship Prize for Figure Composition and has organised and co- curetted exhibitions in London at the Small Mansion Arts Centre, and’ Territories’ – a travelling exhibition to DenHelder, Holland and Bow Arts Centre, London. He has exhibited widely in the UK, most recently in the Wales Contemporary Open and the Discerning Eye exhibition.
