Artist’s Statement
Early spring in the English countryside, as yet no leaves on the trees renders them stark and sculpted. I like the abstract shapes which branches make particularly against the cold spring light. Light is very important to my work it brings a painting to life, and creates an atmosphere. In this painting it was interesting to play with a cooler palette to produce that harshness of light.
The Year of the Tree 30
Jane Price lives and works in Chiswick, London. Much of Jane’s recent work is centred on landscapes dominated by trees, woodland and sunlight. Jane became a full-time artist in 2004, working from Great Western Studios in London before establishing her own studio Chiswick in 2007. In 2010 Jane was shortlisted for the John Moores Art Prize, and in 2014 she was selected for the Royal Academy’s Summer Exhibition. Jane works primarily on canvas using acrylics and charcoal. The big bold paintings that we have in the gallery are a stunning addition to any room.
