Artist’s Statement
This island of ours contains many coastal inlets and bays where small boats are moored, each one quite different to another. I painted this more for its compositional structure rather than a specific place because it summarizes the idea of a spread of land which ends with closely moored boats grouped together in a safe shelter. I was looking for a cluster of forms giving a focal interest after an area of near empty space. It’s a calming and quiet painting which is how I respond to such places, where one can sit and quietly observe the gentle theatre of nature.
