Artist’s Statement
This particular drawing was made from a series of sketches made in Sackville Gardens in Manchester city centre. The gardens are surrounded by high, red brick Victorian buildings and that creates strong channelled breezes that give that space an unusual sense of movement. At certain times of the day as the sun is at its highest, light is able to penetrate the space, casting very dynamic shadows. I hoped to capture that sense of movement and light in the drawing.
